Jordan

The Association Agreement Establishing A Free Trade Area Between The Republic of Turkey and The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was signed on 1 December 2009 in Amman and entered into force 1 March 2011(*).

Upon its entry into force, this Agreement replaced the Trade Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (signed on 17 June 1980) and the Agreement on Economic, Industrial and Technical Co-operation between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (signed on 4 December 1983).

With Turkey-Jordan Association Agreement, tariffs and non-tariff barriers were eliminated in trade between the Parties. The Agreement also regulates numerous areas including the sanitary and phytosanitary measures, intellectual property rights, internal taxation, balance of payments, anti-damping, safeguard measures, rules of origin and structural adjustment as well as listing specific areas for cooperation.  

Concerning industrial products, Customs duties and charges having equivalent effect on imports applicable in Turkey to products originating in Jordan, which are not listed in List A of Annex II were abolished upon the entry into force of the Agreement. Customs duties and charges having equivalent effect on imports applicable in Jordan to products originating in Turkey which are not listed in List A or List B1, B2, B3 of Annex II have been abolished on the date of entry into force of the Agreement.

Customs duties and charges having equivalent effect on imports applicable in Jordan to products originating in Turkey which are listed in List B1, List B2 and List B3 of Annex II are to be abolished until 1 January 2018 in accordance with Article 5 of the Agreement.

For the products originating in Turkey and for the products originating in Jordan which are listed in List A of Annex II, the arrangements to be applied shall be re-examined by the Association Council three years after the entry into force of the Agreement.

For agricultural products, with the Turkey-Jordan Association Agreement, both Turkey and Jordan granted unlimited duty elimination and/or duty reduction in the form of tariff quotas for certain agricultural products. The agricultural products which are subject to concessions are listed in Protocol I of the Agreement.

The products that will benefit from the preferential tariffs should fulfill the rules of origin set out in Protocol II of the Agreement.

The trade volume between Turkey and Jordan was realized as  795 Million US $ in 2017 with a decrease of 2% compared to 2016. In 2017, imports from Jordan were 113 Million US $, whereas exports to Jordan was 682 Million US $.
