The WTO Goods barometer signaled a recovery in global trade volume

27 November 2023

The World Trade Organization (WTO) Goods Trade Barometer, released by the WTO, signaled that global merchandise trade volumes are beginning to recover. The Goods Trade Barometer index was released at 100.7 in November, up from 99.1 in August and above the threshold value of 100. The report noted that automobile sales and electronic products trade have positively affected the recovery, while rising geopolitical tensions have clouded the near-term outlook. The index's rise above 100 reflects that trade volumes are likely to gradually return to their medium-term trend in the second half of 2023.
