The inflation rate in Germany, measured as the year-on-year change in the consumer price index (CPI), stood at +2.9% in August 2026. The rise in consumer prices therefore intensified slightly again, after having stood at +2.8% in July 2026 and +2.3% in June 2026. Compared with July 2026, overall consumer prices rose by 0.2% in August 2026.
The inflation rate excluding food and energy, often referred to as core inflation, the year-on-year change stood at +2.4% in August 2026.
