Retail Sales in the U.S. Declined by 0.9% in May 2025 Compared to the Previous Month

Advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for May 2025, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $715.4 billion, down 0.9 percent (±0.5 percent) from the previous month, and up 3.3 percent (±0.5 percent) from May 2024.
Total sales for the March 2025 through May 2025 period were up 4.5 percent (±0.4 percent) from the same period a year ago. The March 2025 to April 2025 percent change was revised from up 0.1 percent (±0.5 percent) to down 0.1 percent (±0.2 percent).
Retail trade sales were down 0.9 percent (±0.5 percent) from April 2025, and up 3.0 percent (±0.5 percent) from last year.
