The seasonally adjusted general services purchasing managers' index (PMI) increased to 57.8 in March from 55.0 in February, signaling a sharp and accelerated increase in service sector activity. The upturn extended the current sequence of growth to three months, with the rate of expansion the best recorded since November 2020. Total new work also rose at the fastest rate in 28 months. Increased activity levels were linked to sustained improvements in new order intakes following the recent easing of COVID-19 measures.
