Michigan Consumer Confidence in the US Declined to 52.2 in April 2025

The consumer sentiment index calculated by the University of Michigan fell to 52.2 in April from 57.0 in March 2025. Index of current economic conditions declined to 59.8 in April from 63.8 in March, and index of consumer expectations fell to 47.3 from 52.6.

Year-ahead inflation expectations surged from 5.0% last month to 6.5% this month, the highest reading since 1981 and marking four consecutive months of unusually large increases of 0.5 percentage points or more. Long-run inflation expectations climbed from 4.1% in March to 4.4% in April, reflecting a particularly large jump among independents.
